If any story is NOT blather, it is in-your-face examples of global climate change. As we know, 'global warming' refers to the phenomenon of extreme weather, not just 'warmer' everywhere. Last week I awoke to news of 2 feet of snow outside London, and 650 flights canceled at Heathrow - because they don't have enough snow plows. Like Seattle, they don't have enough because it just doesn't happen often enough to warrant the investment. This was the first of several days of heavy snow. The same happened to Seattle - 'unprecedented' number of snow days. Here in Marblemout, the norm is about a foot - we got six feet this year. Climate, as we know, does not consist of an aberrant year or two. And yet we've had three 50 year floods on our beloved Skagit River in 10 years. This story has repeated over many areas. And now Australia is under weather siege, with Melbourne temperatures of 118 F, when the "norm" is 79 F. "Unprecedented" droughts have preceded this tragedy of 230+ deaths, including people trapped in their cars trying to escape raging wildfires.
The solution according to (unchanged) U.S. Republicans - tax cuts for the wealthy. I do not sleep better tonight knowing they are fighting for their greedy cause.
